The blog article references Peterson and tries to make him look like an ass by claiming he exaggerates. I'm really not sure about it. In German you would call the part which uses "public incitement hatred" a Gummiparagraph. It could mean anything. That's the problem.

Peterson just knows how that plays out because of the politics game his faculty is playing. You can listen up to the point he makes if it's interesting to you on his Youtube channel. I think he has valid points and if you start to listen into his lectures, you'll learn that it's not founded on thin air but rather more on his studies of authoritarian regimes and his psychology studies.

Quite interesting! He has a strange canadian accent, but his lectures are very worthwhile.

"virtue signaling" seems to focus on people doing what they think is right.

That's not the context I have heard the term in.

Via Wikipedia we get a third definition which makes the most sense, IMHO.

Virtue signalling is the conspicuous expression of moral values by an individual done primarily with the intent of enhancing that person's standing within a social group. The term was first used in signalling theory, to describe any behavior that could be used to signal virtue—especially piety among the religious.[1] Since 2015, the term has become more commonly used as a pejorative characterization by commentators to criticize what they regard as the platitudinous, empty, or superficial support of certain political views, and also used within groups to criticize their own members for valuing outward appearance over substantive action.

[..] as many feminist and gender issues are..

I disagree.

I think not enough people are repelled by the openly anti-science stance of many gender study academics. I'm not only talking about bat-shit crazy US professors, I talk about Austrian professors too.
